J. Robert Lennon has a blog!

J. Robert Lennon, one of my favorite authors, has a blog (with his wife). It’s interesting to see what a Real Writer thinks about literature. Also a bit disillusioning . . .

. . . his reactions don’t seem that different from mine or anybody else’s (although much better written, of course). The blog is a lot like Jenny Davidson’s Light Reading, except that Jenny is a nice person who works down the hall from somebody whose kid is in my kid’s preschool, and J. Robert Lennon is the J. Robert Lennon, so he’s not allowed to have regular-guy thoughts. I’ll keep reading his blog occasionally, though, to get some insight into his thinking. I hope it doesn’t take any time away from his real work–I want him to write more novels (and also some collections of stories; I read one of his stories once (Harpers? Atlantic? New Yorker?) and it was great).

On a related note, I hope this blog doesn’t take time away from my real work. I’d like to think that, by allowing me to vent my thoughts quicky and in a somewhat organized way, the blog frees my brain space for deeper ideas. But maybe it just wastes my dwindling reserves of free time.

Nicholson Baker. Now there’s a guy who should have a blog. “The Mezzanine” is timeless (in its wholly timebound way), in my opinion. But Baker just seems like a natural blogger.

  1. I too wish Nicholson Baker would write a blog. I wonder if his obsession with print precludes that sort of thing, though?

You can find several recent JRL stories in Playboy, believe it or not…

    I like your blog!!
