In 1920, the population of Nevada was only 77,000

Sure, I knew it was a desert. But I didn’t realize that so few people lived there.

    I think it had to do with water. Little water, few people. Once Hoover Dam was finished the city of Las Vegas could grow, and it did. Water will limit the population as well.

    Also air conditioning. In Nevada in 1920, the closest thing to air conditioning was a wet sheet hung up in the window.
