It seems that every day brings a better system for exploring and sharing data on the Internet. From Iceland comes DataMarket. DataMarket is very good at visualizing individual datasets – with interaction and animation, although the “market” aspect hasn’t yet been developed, and all access is free.
Here’s an example of visualizing rankings of countries competing in WorldCup:
And here’s a lovely example of visualizing population pyramids:
In the future, the visualizations will also include state of the art models for predicting and imputing missing data, and understanding the underlying mechanisms.

Aleks, thanks a lot for the mention and the kind words.
As you mention, we're based in Iceland and – as people will see – our current data offering is pretty much all Icelandic. But that is about to change. These days we're busy completing our Pro Account features, and adding the first serious bulk of premium data, to start filling the "market" part of the equation.
Our approach is that if the data is open and free anywhere to begin with it will still be open and free (only easier to find and use) through us, while access to premium data such as market research, data from financial markets, analyst forecasts etc. is sold for a fee decided by the data owner.
The next step is to expand our offering outside the tiny home-market. By October we should at least have data from the UN, OECD and Eurostat, and a lot of other data sources, public and premium, will follow in the coming months. It will be interesting to see what the uptake will be once we have a broader appeal.
Again, thanks for the mention and don't hesitate to contact us if you want to know more.
Best,
Hjalmar Gislason, founder and CEO, DataMarket
