  1. What a great idea. Just curious, but why not do GDP per capita? Is it because there is little variance in GDP per capita across the US, and so comparisons with foreign GDP per capita will not translate as well onto the map? Per capita income is a better measure of overall wellbeing than Income alone is my thinking.

    Not to take this map too seriously, but . . . there's a lot of leeway in what country is assigned to each state. In particular, if you have a state with total GDP of X, then there are probably several countries with GDPs that are not too far from X; then you have the choice of whether to choose a small country with high per-capita GDP or a large country with low per-capita GDP.
