Darcy Kelley sends along a link to this site, Make My Vote Matter, in which you can enter two different addresses where you might vote, and it will tell you in which (if any) of these addresses has elections that are predicted to be close. The site is aimed at students; according to the site, they can register to vote at either their home or school address.
The fact that this site even exists is disheartening.
Why is that?
The importance of your vote shouldn’t depend on where you or your parents live or study. People should be able to spend their time researching issues, not trying to game the system to approach (much less achieve) parity.
Adede:
I agree. The problem is not with people wanting to vote strategically; it’s with the system we have, where some people’s votes are much more important than others’.
+1
This seems like the kind of site that could generate a lot of backlash against students from partisans choosing to ignore the fact that people who are wealthy enough to own multiple residences in different districts will have analogous options.
